Review: Textilus is an iPad-only word processor with a ton of features

Create, edit, and share rich text documents on your iPad with this easy-to-use word processor.

Textilus Word Processor Free is a feature-loaded rich-text editor and word processor for the iPad that works largely as advertised, albeit with some performance issues. It's easy to ignore the handful of small issues, though, because this is truly a powerful app, allowing you to create any number of documents optimized for display on the iPad and easy to share with anyone because they are created in RTF.

When you first open the app, you can immediately start creating new documents or you can load existing RTF files from your iCloud, Dropbox, or Scrivener cloud accounts. We suggest you read the getting started document that shows you how to do a lot of cool things, although you can also jump right in if you prefer. When composing, you'll have access to an expanded keyboard that manages to include a huge number of added features you're used to in desktop word processors onscreen without eating up space. The cursor tool is particularly well crafted, allowing you to select text more easily than the touch screen interface normally allows. Inserting images, adding charts, creating drawings, and sharing with other users is all very easy in this app. The only issue we had in our tests was the at-times slow load speeds when opening new documents or saving and closing an existing one.

With this one small issue aside (which can be ignored, considering how fast the actual composition tools are), Textilus is a superb word processor for your iPad, even with just the free version. We highly recommend it as a supplement if you compose or edit frequently on your device.
