Review: The clipping is easy with Free MP3 Cutter Joiner

Cut and join MP3 clips with this super-easy freeware MP3 editor.

Free MP3 Cutter Joiner takes the most common method for editing MP3s and pares it down to the essentials. Like nearly every other tool of its type, Free MP3 Cutter Joiner lets you mark the start and end points of your clip on a spectral graph that follows the music. But instead of trying to impress you by looking like a pro mixing panel, Free MP3 Cutter puts all the necessary controls right where you need them.

As its name suggests, Free MP3 Cutter Joiner is actually two tools in one, MP3 Cutter and MP3 Joiner, each with its own tab in a smallish, light-blue, dialog-style user interface. The first tab, MP3 Cutter, is divided horizontally: Above is the usual audio spectral graph, with its jagged line depicting the audio signal's intensity; beneath are counters displaying start and end points to a fraction of a second as well as basic media player controls, output directory options, and file controls. A "Help" button accesses an online guide with step-by-step instructions, but there's a reason that all the audio editors, free or not, use essentially the same procedure since it's so easy and intuitive: play, listen, mark, and cut. Of course, the MP3 Joiner is even easier to use since all you have to do is arrange your clips in order.

We think Free MP3 Cutter Joiner is a great choice if you just want to cut or join some MP3s and don't need all the extras.
