AccuWeather offers many of the same features as other weather apps in the App Store, but without the same style, attention to detail, or focus on key data that users are looking for. The result is an information-rich, but roughly-crafted app that is sometimes slow to load, not always intuitive to navigate, and ultimately not as effective as similar apps.
AccuWeather is not a bad app, however. It does many things well, starting with the general loading speed of the app, the panel of information provided on the home screen, and accessibility of additional information without loading excess videos or ads. After loading the app, it goes directly to your current location (if enabled) and shows current conditions along with basic data like UV index, barometric pressure, and wind speed. Swiping the screen will move you to different menu options (listed at the bottom of the dock)--including hourly reports, daily forecast, and radar maps. All of these load fairly fast, but there are some delays at times and data does not always update immediately when checking the app. More than once we had to restart the app to get fresh data.
AccuWeather is a decent weather app, using technology that local news stations use for their broadcasts, a welcome and familiar source for many users. It feels, however, unpolished to some degree--from the bare interface to the slow load times and occasional restarts needed. Functionality is there, but the style and speed seen in other weather apps is not--not a glaring flaw, but an issue for those used to other tools.
