Review: Take smarter screenshots with COBRA Snipping Tool

Take screenshots of the entire screen or just a selection, quickly and easily, with COBRA Snipping Tool.

COBRA Snipping Tool offers a basic yet effective tool for taking screenshots. While it is miles ahead of the default screenshot tool in Windows, it's perhaps missing some things you'd want. For one, you can't decorate or annotate your screenshot once you've taken it like you would be able to with the default Windows Snipping Tool. There isn't much in the way of customization or adaptability, either.

This download lets you take a screenshot of your entire screen or a specific selection. You can turn the selection tool to any color, so it's always easy to see which area you're about to shoot. Once you've made your screenshot, you can save it as a JPEG, GIF, or PNG file, but you can't do much else to it. You aren't able to trim extras without taking a new picture. You can't draw circles or labels on any part of the screenshot, either. When it comes to advanced options, COBRA Snipping Tool offers next to nothing. You aren't able to resize or reformat you screenshot. You can tell the program where it should save the image, though.

If all you need is a basic screenshot tool, you won't find one better than this. COBRA Snipping Tool creates screenshots quickly and effectively. The problem is that that's all it does. You'll still need to slide your finished project into a photo editor if you want to do more with it. With a few extra features, COBRA Snipping Tool could have been the total package.
