Review: PicsPlay provides standard photo editing features

Edit photos rapidly on your phone with this easy-to-use iOS app.

PicsPlay offers a large number of photo editing tools in a relatively easy-to-navigate interface that works well on the iPhone. For a free app with few restrictions, PicsPlay is a very solid, well-designed, and ultimately very useful photo editor. It gets crowded by the rampant competition on the App Store, but on its merits alone, it deserves to be one of the top free options available.

PicsPlay manages to get everything you'll need onto one screen for easy access, but keeps it from being overcrowded. Once you load an image (either from your phone or camera), you can crop or rotate, add effects, change colors, add stamps or clipart, and much more. In fact, we were surprised at just how many options there are, and how fast they operate. There was little or no slowdown at any point and the save functions are numerous, allowing you to post to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, in addition to saving to your own photo library. While a landscape mode would have been useful for landscape- oriented photos, PicsPlay is generally a very well-made app that manages to overcome what other apps suffer, with simplistic interface controls.

In terms of trial restrictions, PicsPlay has few. There is an ad bar at the bottom of the screen and you don't have access to all 200 photo effects and themes; but otherwise, the app runs as expected and allows you a great deal of control over the output of your images. If you are looking for a solid, free photo editor, this is a great place to start.
