The English Tagalog Dictionary provides a quick and easy-to-use dictionary experience on your iPhone, but has some serious issues in the setup phase, combined with a messy interface. The dictionary, itself, works as advertised and is extremely responsive, but you'll need to wade through a handful of issues to get to that point.
When you first open the dictionary, you'll need to download the actual definitions. This takes quite a bit of time, and because of the small size of the files and clear lag between device and servers, we wonder why they were not included with the app on the App Store. After installation is finally complete, navigation of the interface will take a few moments to acclimate to, as well. However, once you figure out where the translation buttons are and set your options, the actual translations are quick, accurate, and helpful without offering too much. Easily translating between Tagalog and English in either direction, the app is a perfect companion for travelers and students, alike.
If you can get past the initial barriers to entry that English Tagalog Dictionary presents, you have a finely-crafted app that works very efficiently when you need a quick translation. It may be buried a few menus deep, but we were very impressed with how well the app worked, especially compared to some other free dictionary apps.
