Review: Diamond Dash rethinks the popular match-three formula

Match three as fast as you can in this ultimately forgettable puzzler.

Diamond Dash utilizes many of the same core mechanics we have seen time and again in other match-three games, and while it brings nothing new to the table, it is nicely designed and fun to play.

Instead of the standard swap to match methods we are used to, Diamond Dash has you tap any combination of three or more squares on the screen at once. Get as many as you can in 60 seconds, combined with combos and modifiers to level up your character and compete against other users on Facebook. The experience is actually quite engaging and rather fun, offering no new mechanics, but a compelling game that will keep many users playing compulsively for hours. It does this well and the polish given to the game's interface and design is solid; but with limited menus and at times familiar gameplay elements, it doesn't reach the next level.

If you are searching for something new in the match-three puzzle game genre, Diamond Dash is not it. However, if you want a game that is well-designed, visually attractive, and compelling to play, you may like Diamond Dash enough to give it a prominent spot on your iPad or iPhone.
