For those looking to change Facebook's layout, Facebook Layouts for Mac adds some flexibility to the social network's design, but it didn't always work as promised and ultimately has few options that would appeal to adult users.
The application's Web site claims it is compatible with the major Web browsers. When downloading the free add-on, the file format was only readable by Firefox and would not work in other browsers, like Safari, which is a disappointment. Once in Firefox, Facebook Layouts for Mac did install properly and worked after a restart of the browser. The add-on had no instructions, which was a problem since it required trial and error to figure out. To operate the program, the user must click on the developer's Web page in the preferences menu. This allows the user to select skins to apply to their Facebook profiles. These include additional images and features, such as a dislike button. Unfortunately, the majority of the available skins were filled with drawings or other graphics that would only appeal to younger users. Adults looking for more features would not likely find many useful options here, although the available options do load properly when selected.
While functional in adding features to the social network, Facebook Layouts for Mac's lack of sophisticated designs means most users will not likely find the options and skins acceptable. This add-on may only appeal to the younger audience.
