Unless you haven't owned a phone for the last few years, you are likely familiar with Zynga's "with Friends" line of games. The classic Words with Friends is a global phenomenon and subsequent follow-up games have been released every few months since. Hanging with Friends HD is one of the more popular variants, putting a twist on the classic schoolyard game of Hangman, while matching friends wirelessly using their Zynga ID or Facebook log-in. The game's interface will be familiar to anyone who has played Words with Friends, allowing you to see all of your friends (via Facebook log-in) who also play and challenge them.
You can also challenge a stranger to practice or allow others to challenge you, but the friend matching and chat function is what makes Hanging with Friends so addictive. Each game consists of multiple rounds. In each round, one player will use tiles provided by the game to form a word. The other player must then guess which letters are in the word. If they guess wrong, they receive a red mark and when they fail the round (with five wrong guesses), one of the balloons their character is holding pops. The first player to lose all of their balloons loses the game.
The idea is simple, but by including numbered tiles and multipliers, Zynga has enhanced a classic formula, adding a degree of strategy. While short words with obscure letters like J and Z are always harder to guess, there are rewards for thinking up longer, equally complex words as you rack up points. Hanging with Friends HD lives up to the "with Friends" name, providing hours of challenging and distracting fun for you and your Facebook friends.
