Paper by FiftyThree is an app that lets you sketch drawings and diagrams on your iPhone and iPad and share them with others. A free app from iTunes, Paper by FiftyThree installs easily.
There's barely an interface with Paper by FiftyThree. You can touch the screen of your device and draw anything you want, just as if you had a stylus and paper in front of you. There's a selection of tools available, but it pops out of the way when you don't need them. Paper by FiftyThree claims that its engine reacts to touch-screen pressure in a way that is optimized for each tool selected, and we did find differences in the way the app reacted to our movements. On an iPad, the drawings can be stunning with high-resolution images, which can then be shared with social media sites or e-mail. There are paid upgrades to the app to add new features and capabilities, some of which fans will have to have.
We tested Paper by FiftyThree on an iPad 3 with the Retina Display and the images produced were quite stunning. When in the hands of someone with drawing skills, Paper by FiftyThree really hits its stride, and uploading the results in real time to Web sites was easy. If you have artistic skills, Paper by FiftyThree won't constrain you.
