Learn to touch-type quickly with Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing

Type classic books, song lyrics, newsfeeds, and other fun practice materials with Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing.

2011 Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing is a new release of the popular typing-tutor app for iOS. The goal of the app is to teach you touch typing, and it does so using a combination of traditional typing exercises and some new multimedia twists. Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing is available from the App Store and is easy to install.

The Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing interface starts with a classroom image, and you can click on hot spots for the different tasks you can try. Later editions of the app have added all kinds of new exercises, such as typing the lyrics to songs from your iTunes library! You can practice typing the scrolling newsfeeds across the bottoms of TV screens, type classic novels, or play 17 mini games, all designed to get you typing quickly and accurately. There's even an option for DVORAK keyboards, and there's a version available for those using British English.

We've seen a lot of typing-practice apps over the years, but Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing continues to be among the best. It's not free, but it just may be the easiest and most entertaining way to learn to touch-type on your Mac. Highly recommended.
