Remove all traces of programs with Your Uninstaller

Uninstall programs thoroughly, including leftovers, with this capable shareware.

Dedicated uninstallers make up one of the most useful yet underrated classes of Windows utilities. A good one not only improves on the built-in uninstaller found in the Control Panel by removing programs the Windows tool won't, sometimes by forcing matters, but also cleans up the leftover files, folders, and even registry keys that uninstalled programs often leave behind. Your Uninstaller Pro from URSoft does all that and also includes useful extras like a File Shredder, Disk Cleaner, Startup Manager, and Trace Eraser. It also has some smart features that keep it from removing crucial programs. The trial version of Your Uninstaller Pro is fully functional and free to use for 21 days.

Your Uninstaller Pro's colorful interface offers several ways to display your installed programs in its main window, starting with the default display, a field of program icons. We clicked View and changed to the Details view, which let us sort our programs by size, date last accessed, and, most importantly, installation date. We could also customize the program's sidebar panels and choose a different interface language from a huge list. Your Uninstaller's menu also offers a Start Menu tool and easy access to various Windows Tools in your system, such as Security Center, Services, and On Screen Keyboard.

But we were interested in how Your Uninstaller Pro performs. Clicking Uninstall starts the process, but you have more choices in the lower panel: not just Uninstall but also Advanced Uninstall, Quick Uninstall, AutoFix, which scans all apps for issues, and Empty Gone, which removes empty folders.

We selected a program and clicked Uninstall. A wizard with four Modes opened: Built-In, Safe, Normal, and Super. Since Built-In just runs the program's uninstaller and Normal includes Safe Mode (and it's the default), we chose Normal Mode. Your Uninstaller Pro created an automatic (and optional) System Restore Point. It uninstalled the app and scanned for leftovers, which we removed with a click.

We've relied on tools like Your Uninstaller Pro for years. Whether it's better for your needs than similar freeware, we can't say, but its extra features definitely add to its appeal.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Your Uninstaller 7.4.2012.05.
