The Power Video Cutter is a tool for converting videos from one format to another and to perform simple editing to cut out part of a file and create a new file. While novice users might need to spend some time with the Help file before cutting files, the app proved easy to use.
The program's compact interface looks professional and clean, with large buttons to locate the source file and output directory. Nearly 20 file types are supported, including FLV, DVD, MP4, and AVI. The download process for acquiring videos off of YouTube is quick and they have an easy YouTube button to start up the process. There's also a large Cut button to snip out portions of a video, but while the process ultimately proved to be simple, less experienced users might need some guidance from the Help page, which gives clear directions for using this feature. Cutting and formatting times vary, depending on the size of the file. The wait time seemed reasonable, though, and the resulting file had the same quality as the original. We did find that the program can be a little jumpy and slow when you first start it up. Sometimes we would have to wait a few seconds before something we clicked responded. It seemed to work fine after a few minutes, though, and depending on your system, you may get a faster response time.
If you don't need access to any other video editing features, and just want to convert files and cut out specific portions, Power Video Cutter gets the job done.
