With the Groupon app for Android, you can not only sift through local daily deals, but you can also manage your profile, keep track of Groupons you've already purchased, and sift through rewards from some of your favorite retailers.
If you've used Groupon.com at all, the Android app should feel familiar. The look is the same, the deal categories are all there, and purchasing Groupons is just as simple. The difference, of course, is in the swiping and the ease with which you can zip around.
The app starts you off with a list of featured deals available in your area (based on either your GPS location or the location associated with your Groupon account). Swiping left or right brings you to other categories of deals: Nearby, Getaways, Goods, Deals for Pets, and Rewards. And within each category, you can scroll up and down to view the different deals.
When you find a deal you're interested in, tap it to pull up all of the details. Just like the full site, the Groupon app gives you vital information including value of the deal, calculated savings, Yelp reviews, and, of course, all of the fine print. When you're ready, you can make a purchase right from the app. Meanwhile, on the bottom-right of the screen is a tiny tab that pulls up a few more controls, giving you access to your profile, Groupons you've purchased, and Rewards.
One thing I don't like about the app is that the Groupon price isn't listed next to every item, so while browsing through deals, in many cases you have to tap through to see how much a Groupon costs, which can get annoying. Also, the app's performance can feel a bit laggy. Launching Groupon takes several seconds and scrolling through offers isn't as smooth as it should be.
Performance issues aside, Groupon for Android is still a great tool for deal-seekers and casual shoppers alike. It's as simple to use as Groupon.com and frequent Groupon users will be glad to have on-the-go access to all of their purchased deals.
