We appreciate software that tells you exactly what it's all about. For example, take Efficient Reminder Free Portable Edition. The name says it all: it's portable freeware that creates efficient reminders, and does so efficiently, too. All that's left is to tell you how it works.
Efficient Reminder is completely portable, so you can save it anywhere and run it on any compatible PC without having to install or register the program. We clicked the extracted executable, which opened the interface with an optional tool tip. The program's interface is indeed efficient, with a format based around Events. The subtle, contrasting colors and highlights are attractive but not overpowering or garish, but we could change the look by clicking Interface Style on the View menu. We could quickly open a Calendar, Search tool, and Recycle Bin as well as the main view, Events, from the left-hand panel. Under Events, we could select All, Today, Next 7 Days, Overdue, and so on, or click Customize Current View to configure our Events display. Of course, we needed some Events for all that, which are created and saved as Efficient Reminder Free Files, or .erfx. We could quickly create New Events from the program's system tray icon as well as the interface by clicking New Event and filling in the fields in the program's wizard, which configures not only the reminder (including audible alarms) but also its recurrence, start and end times, and more. The system tray option seems ideal for those quick reminders you wish you'd created, especially when it's now too late. Some of the program's advanced features, such as grouping options, are only available in the Pro version. But the free tool seems to have all the essentials, which is all you really need.
Efficient Reminder Free Portable Edition is a great tool for busy people because you can install it on a keychain drive and run the same program at home, work, or wherever. That means no syncing, no manual updating and transferring, and no lost or forgotten Events. If you need more than the freeware offers, you can upgrade; if not, you're out nothing.
