GetGlue is a Foursquare-style social networking game that lets you "check in" to the movies and shows you're watching, books you're reading, games you're playing, and more. It then takes your check-in data, along with your Likes, Favorites, and other Ratings, and recommends other forms of entertainment it thinks you'll enjoy. The more you interact with the app, the better its recommendations get. Plus, if you perform certain actions, you can unlock stickers for your profile. Unlock at least 20, and you can actually request that physical stickers be sent to you, free of charge. What's more, some stickers even come with exclusive deals for some of GetGlue's entertainment partners. It's a unique and incredibly addictive experience.
With the GetGlue mobile app, you'll never miss an opportunity to check in to your entertainment. Watching a show? Just tap the television icon and find the show title. Listening to music? Tap the music icon and find the track. All of your check-ins will be posted to your GetGlue profile, and, if you like, can be shared via Twitter and Facebook. The app also lets you read a stream of your friends' check-ins, rate and review forms of entertainment, and edit your profile.
As feature-rich as GetGlue is, we don't think the app's interface is particularly attractive. The main navigation icons are a bit washed-out, and navigating the lengthy lists of categories and titles can sometimes be a drag. Also, we think an autocomplete function would help significantly in searching for titles. All that said, the stickers still look cool, and we're excited to see how the physical prints turn out.
Overall, we love the social game that is GetGlue. It's not only unique, fun, and addictive, it's actually incredibly useful. It drums up surprisingly thoughtful recommendations that keep you coming back for more, and sometimes even fetches you deals.
