Recipes on your Android

Epicurious app makes it easy to access recipes on the go.

Epicurious for Android lets you bring your handheld device into the kitchen and to the grocery store to serve as a cooking companion, and it's one of the best in the category. The home screen gives you quick links to specific categories of recipes (e.g. recipes for kids, party snacks, cocktails), but by entering a keyword into the search box at the bottom of the interface you can browse more targeted online recipes.

If you want even more control over your search, you can skip the search box and hit the search button at the bottom of the screen. This lets you search by your chosen main ingredient, type of meal, dietary considerations, and seasonal recipes. Search results are extremely easy to browse, with only the recipe name, an image, and user reviews for the recipe--you get to the bulk of the recipe by hitting View Recipe. A swipe to the left moves on to the next recipe in your search results, making it easy to find something to fit your mood. When you find recipes you like, you can add them to your favorites for later use.

Once you've decided what you're going to make, simply hit the plus sign next to the recipe name to add it to your grocery list. Epicurious then displays each ingredient with a radio button so you can check them off as you walk around the grocery store.

Overall, Epicurious is one of the better recipe databases available, with easy-to-use controls and handy features that will come in handy at every stage of the cooking process. Anyone who has an interest in a cooking companion should check out this app.
