Windows7Theme offers a variety of free themes and desktop backgrounds for Windows 7 in self-installing theme packs. The high-resolution images are presented in a wide-screen format (1,920x1,200 pixels) and can be scaled, shuffled, and selected via the standard Windows Personalization page. We took a look at Windows 7 Colorful Theme, which emphasizes vivid colors.
As with other theme packs we've tried, the download unpacked and installed automatically, replacing our previous wallpaper with the first image in the series, an abstract image of pastel layers that strongly suggested lemon and raspberry sherbet (a good start, by the way). We right-clicked the desktop and clicked Personalize. On the Personalization page, we clicked Desktop Background and set Windows to change the picture every 10 seconds to get a better look at each. Each image has the Windows7Theme.net logo, and many had a Windows 7 logo, too. All the images showed intense, deep colors, crisp edges, and other hallmarks of HD images. We could also select how the images fit on the screen with the standard Windows control. In addition to the desktop images, the program replaced our Windows color with a pleasant bluish hue. Some of the themes offered by the developer have sound effects, but Windows 7 Color Theme didn't. To disable the theme and return to our previous configuration, we merely had to reopen the Personalization page and make our changes. To uninstall the theme pack, we simply deleted it from our system.
Windows 7 Colorful Theme lived up to its name, with bright, intense colors and abstract designs that would not be out of place in a business environment.
