The interface hasn't changed, but the game's goofy and addictive premise--slashing through fast-flying fruit with swiping strokes of a virtual sword--works especially well on the iPad's bigger screen. You can even "go Wolverine" with up to eight-finger multitouch.

The game gives you several options for solo and multiplayer: In single-player, you can play Classic (the game ends when you hit a bomb or miss three fruits), Arcade (a 1-minute time limit with game-changing power-ups), or Zen (a pacifist mode with no bombs and a 90-second limit). In multiplayer, you can play in one of two split-screen, head-to-head modes (a time-limited Zen duel, or Classic with deployable bombs, both of which require a steady surface to play on), or you can compete in full-screen multiplayer mode via Game Center with a friend or a random matchup (as you try to slice your own fruit while avoiding your opponent's).

The many different modes provide nice twists on the high-scoring, combo-hunting core game, and in all modes you can earn achievements and work toward unlocking new swords and backgrounds in your "dojo."

If you already have Fruit Ninja, Fruit Ninja HD might not be worth the extra cost. That said, the game looks great on the iPad, and the multiplayer options make perfect use of the more spacious screen.
