Network nirvana

Combine your social networks into one sleek interface with this IE add-on.

Social-networking sites are meant to help us keep up with our friends, but they often end up taking up way more of our time than they should. Yoono for Internet Explorer is a clever browser extension that lets you merge all of your social-networking and chat services into one unobtrusive interface.

The extension installs easily, and it's evident from the moment the extension launches that Yoono's designers are pros; the sidebar that contains Yoono has a sleek and attractive look. Users are walked through the steps of configuring Yoono, which includes selecting all of the social networking services that are to be connected. The options include Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Flickr, YouTube, FriendFollow, LinkedIn, and Foursquare, as well as the chat services Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, and Google Talk. Once Yoono is configured, a feed combining updates from all of the selected services appears in the sidebar. The sidebar also contain a Discovery tab that holds a variety of different types of Internet searches, as well as a button for sharing links with some or all of your networks. Users can post status updates to all of their networks at once, receive notifications of new messages, and chat with users on the various chat services, all from one discreet interface. The sidebar can be hidden and viewed with the click of a button. Overall, we were impressed with Yoono, with one exception: after we had selected several social networks that we wanted to use with Yoono, we found it impossible to access the list of available services to select additional ones. The extension's documentation includes instructions for the initial configuration, but no guidance on making changes after that. This was frustrating, and we hope that future versions will correct this problem. Still, on the whole, Yoono is a great way to integrate all of your chatting and social networking activities in one compact interface.

Yoono for Internet Explorer installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this extension to all users.
