Kitchen sync

Keep files up to date with a tool that goes beyond synchronization.

Fevosoft's Beyond Synch is just the sort of handy little tool we love to have around. It's a simple but capable utility that can synchronize and back up files locally, on network drives, or on just about any sort of external device, in real time. It can compare files to reduce duplicates, and its "byte to byte" verification feature ensures that files are completely synchronized. In addition to its real-time function, you can schedule regular, automatic synchronization.

Beyond Synch's dual-mode interface expands from a Simple view, a small dialog with a basic complement of file menus, into a Full view that displays logs and control icons. The program's Help file includes a registration link. Menu-based controls let you select real-time functions or schedule a synchronization, and there's a system tray icon for quick activation. Simple mode's Real Time Synch, Preview, and Run buttons describe their functions perfectly, and twin fields for selecting Source and Target folders suggest both how Beyond Synch works and just how easy it is to use. Looking for a challenge, we tried synching files between a PC and a Linux-based Archos 5 tablet. The Preview button scanned the directory and displayed the results in a tree view for easy visual comparison, while the Real Time Synch feature took only 23 seconds to transfer 40MB of perfect data to the target folder.

Ever-spreading interconnectivity threatens to disperse not only data storage but also its content. A capable, easy-to-use synchronization tool like Beyond Synch can help you keep all your files up to date across as many platforms as you like.

Editor's note: This is a review of the full version of Beyond Sync 4.1.21.373. The trial version is limited to 30 days trial only.
