We test a lot of programs, but it's rare that we like one enough to keep it. But PerfectSpeed PC Optimizer has become a permanent fixture and our go-to program for keeping our computer running on all cylinders. However, it's not for newbies.
This program installs with two interfaces: a wizard and the main layout; both sleek and intuitive. Using the wizard, we were quickly able to find and fix registry errors, free up hard disk space, remove browsing traces, and optimize our disk drive. Our only complaint is that it's all or nothing with the wizard: You can't view any of the registry items it finds before they're deleted; not good. However, the main interface lets you view the registry search results so you can see what should and shouldn't be deleted. After that, we were able to easily perform a quick performance check and individually tweak our registry, hard disk space, and so on. We especially liked the program's AutoPilot Scheduling feature, which lets you schedule regular performance tweaks. It was all so easy that we didn't even need to consult the searchable Help feature, but it's there if you need it.
PerfectSpeed PC Optimizer has a 15-day trial period. It left behind a folder after uninstallation. Although this program is easy to use--actually, because it's easy to use--we don't recommend it for novices. Messing around with your registry is serious business, even for advanced users. Used with caution, though, it's an excellent PC optimization tool.
