Technocom's Word Count 'N' Invoice is a word-counting application optimized for professional-quality transcription in medical, legal, secretarial, and similar settings. It counts words, lines, pages, and characters and calculates billing rates in single documents or batches of thousands of files in more than 15 document formats. It generates professional-quality reports and invoices, too.
This tool opens with a nag screen and a compact but busy interface. A button hides or shows the Settings at a click, though, which cleans up the layout. Tabs let you select files, create and manage reports and invoices, add personal and client data, and access an extensive Help feature. We pulled a Word document and ran the program on it. Word Count instantly listed totals in each specified criteria and automatically calculated the billing rate in our choice of currency, dollars, though it lists 10 currency choices. Reports and invoices can be saved as Word or Excel files. On the whole, the program is easy to use and offers plenty of guidance, with small touches that show a well-thought-out design; for instance, supported file types are displayed with each format's icon for quick identification.
Word Count 'N' Invoice's free trial version is limited to 15 days or 30 uses, whichever comes first. It downloads as a ZIP file, installs desktop icons without asking, and leaves folders behind when it's uninstalled. It's certified for Windows Vista.
