Listen to old-school Mario sounds

Mario & Friends Lite is a soundboard app--that is, a sound-effects player--featuring over a dozen sounds from popular, old-school Nintendo games like Super Mario and Legend of Zelda. Unfortunately, the App Store currently lists this app under Games, not Entertainment. Make no mistake: it is not a game.

This is the Lite version of the full Mario & Friends app (which has more than 60 sounds), so you get just a handful of sounds, some just a second or two long. Examples include fun, iconic effects like Street Fighter's classic "Hadouken!" or the bouncy Mario 1UP trill.

Aside from the basic premise--cool sounds from classic games--this app doesn't have a lot going for it. The sounds aren't particularly high quality, and the interface is primitive (not to mention that it's accompanied by ads and multiple come-ons to purchase the full app). It's a low-risk download since it's free, but don't expect much. Even in the limited universe of free Mario sound-effect apps, Mario & Friends Lite is lacking.
