Audio Record Expert is an audio recording program that, at first glance, seems like it has potential. It has several features that are useful and not always included with this kind of software, but unfortunately, the quality of the recordings that the program produces negates any potentially useful features.
The program's interface is basic and fairly intuitive, with its features arranged in tabs and buttons. Making recordings is quite easy, a matter of simply starting and stopping the program at the desired times. We liked that the program supports a variety of inputs, including microphones and sounds playing from within the computer (music files, videos, games, etc.). We were especially interested in the silence detector, which allows users to leave the program running and start recording only when sounds are detected. Unfortunately, any positive feelings we had toward the program went out the window when we listened to the recordings that the program produced. The sounds that we wanted to hear were barely audible, and were overlaid with plenty of noise. We felt certain it wasn't our computer because we'd just reviewed some similar programs that produced high-quality recordings, but we fiddled with the volume settings both on our computer and on the program, just in case. That didn't help. The program's built-in Help file is brief and doesn't address audio quality at all. Overall, we were quite unimpressed.
Audio Record Expert has a 30-day trial period, and the trial version allows only three minutes of recording. The program installs and uninstalls without issues. We do not recommend this program.
