Wheels on the Bus is an interactive storybook for preschoolers based on the much-beloved song of the same name (similar to the app Old MacDonald, also from developer Duck Duck Moose). As with Old MacDonald, kids can navigate through eight scenes from the song with forward and back buttons--everything from the wheels on the bus to the driver, baker, and even bubbles on the bus--and each scene provides at least one opportunity for a touch-screen slide or "poke" interaction, whether you're "swishing" the wipers or opening and shutting the doors.
The song plays the appropriate verse for each scene, with options for multiple languages (English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian), instrumental versions, or even (very fun) whatever you want to record yourself. Recent updates have added some flexibility for moving through the book, too, with new settings for automatic page turning and hiding the music button, which younger kids could otherwise accidentally press.
Just like Old MacDonald, Wheels on the Bus shows conscientious design and gratifyingly good production values, with fun animations and quality audio. Wheels on the Bus was the first of the Duck Duck Moose interactive storybook apps, so it doesn't show quite the same polish and amount of interactive possibilities as later titles--but it's still a great app for keeping preschoolers entertained (and now at a fraction of its release price).
