Leap Free Download YouTube Video Converter provides a simple though lengthy process for watching YouTube videos offline. While there were things about it we didn't like, overall the program was a gem.
The converter's interface had an amateurish look with clip-art-style icons, but it proved to be simple and intuitive to operate. We did have to consult the Help file during the opening stages of saving online videos to our desktop. We were disappointed that we couldn't just take a YouTube video and save it to any file type we pleased. Instead, there's an intermediate step that takes the video from the Internet and saves it on your computer. Only then can you place it in the converter's queue. From that point on, things went smoothly. You can choose from nearly 20 file types, ranging from AVI to iPod-friendly formats to Xbox-compatible forms. The conversion took only a few minutes for a relatively large video, and it retained all of its content when we viewed again. The program contains an onscreen viewer feature, but it's the size of a postage stamp. We preferred to watch the videos in our usual viewing program. While Leap Free has some shaky spots, it converted videos smoothly and competently, and we can't complain about the quality of the results.
Leap Free Download YouTube Video Converter is freeware. It leaves folders behind after uninstalling. While the conversion process could probably be streamlined, we still recommend this program.
