WordBanker English-Russian allows users to practice their Russian vocabulary using several different formats. Although the program is not the most intuitive we've ever seen, it's fairly easy to use and is a great way to improve your Russian vocabulary.
The program's interface is not particularly attractive and can sometimes be hard to navigate. Each function opens a separate window within the program, and it's hard to know at first if closing the window is going to take you back to the main menu or close the program completely. Continued use of the program helps with this. The program contains several effective exercises. Users can read a word or phrase in English and then click on the corresponding word in Russian, hear the Russian word spoken and select the corresponding English word, or see the English word written and then type the Russian word. We love that the program allows users to practice not only their vocabulary, but also their reading, listening, and spelling skills. Once users know a word, they can "bank" it so that it stops appearing in the exercises. The program also allows users to practice vocabulary by seeing the English and Russian and hearing the Russian spoken. The built-in Help file provides good instructions for the program's use. Our only complaint was that a series of error messages kept appearing once we started the program, although after clicking through them, the program functioned fine.
The program has a seven-day trial period, which is ample time to evaluate it. The program installs desktop icons without asking but uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users.
