Cribbage is a British card game dating back to the 17th century, so it must be doing something right to turn up in its current incarnation as a 21st century computer game. This version of cribbage stays true to the original concept of the game while adding some more modern touches.
The game's interface is not particularly attractive--it could stand to be a little more sleek--but it is well-organized. While the rules of cribbage are not at all intuitive, this interface is, with easily-navigated menus and icons. The built-in Help file contains a well-written explanation of cribbage's history and rules, as well as guidance on accessing the program's features. Cribbage offers everything you'd expect from a computer card game, such as customizable card decks and game tables. Users can also choose between Five, Six, and Seven Card Cribbage, as well as Noddy, the game on which cribbage is based. Users can play at six different difficulty levels against the computer, or can go online to play against other people. None of the features really wowed us, but all the basics were there and well-executed.
Cribbage has a 30-day trial, which should be plenty of time for users to try out its features. It installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this game to all users, although novice cribbage players will need to put some effort into learning how to play the game.
