Don't get burned out

Ignite Lite is a free, seven-level preview of the innovative platformer game Ignite, in which you control a flaming, jumping ember by the name of "Iggy the Flameboy," using your fiery nature to thwart the plans of the Water Warlords. In this unusual take on the platformer genre, some of the platforms that you jump onto will actually burn beneath your feet--which can be a good thing, like when you're trying to incinerate one of the Water Warlords' minions. The game's simple, touch-and-drag interface lets you jump either left or right, adjusting the trajectory (indicated by a glowing arc) based on how far you drag your finger.

What makes the game interesting--and devilishly fast-paced at times--is that your fire (i.e., health) slowly diminishes anytime that you're not on a burning platform or a pyre-like save checkpoint. That means you have to time your jumps quickly and precisely, although sometimes you'll need to drag the screen to make sure you know where you're jumping (which can become even more difficult as Iggy's flame dies and your vision starts to dim). Like a true platformer, Ignite mixes puzzle-solving with arcade action, but this game's unusual interface and lively sound and graphics combine to provide an especially fun and unique experience. As a preview, Ignite Lite offers little replay value, but it does provide a solid introduction to Ignite's world and gameplay.
