Flawed video downloader

Skip this flawed plug-in that promises to help you view and save videos from YouTube, but failed to work in our tests.

YouTube is arguably one of the most popular Web sites on Earth. Millions of people have downloaded videos ranging from personal diary entries to blockbuster movie previews. Download Youtube Free promises to be a plug-in that helps users view these popular films, but it's incredibly flawed.

This freeware program is embedded in your Internet Explorer browser as a small, green icon shaped like an arrow. The program's interface features a large open screen, presumably for watching videos. Below are buttons to Copy URL, Save As, and Donate Now. The top of the box features only a File tab and a Help tab.

Attempting to do anything with this program was one dead-end after another. Attempting to click on the copy and save buttons instructed us to input a URL. However, there did not appear to be anywhere to actually paste in a URL. A trip to the File menu directed us to the copy and save buttons again. The Help menu took us to a Web site that provided no instruction, but said to paste a YouTube URL in a box and download it. We did this and the video appeared on the site but not in Download Youtube Videos' box.

We never stopped being frustrated by this program and suggest YouTube fans look to other tools to view and save their favorite videos.
