Featured Freeware: ObjectDock

Are you jealous of that slick Mac interface? Check out ObjectDock, a free utility that replaces the Windows Taskbar with a colorful, animated dock similar to the taskbar in Mac OS X.

ObjectDock displays icons for currently running applications and can hold quick-launch icons for your favorite programs. As you pass the cursor over each icon, ObjectDock magnifies it and displays relevant information, helping you find what you need even when you're running several programs at once. An attractive but optional clock rounds out the toolbar. The tiny utility comes with a dozen attractive skins, and users with slow computers can reduce the animation quality to increase speed.

You can even force it to permanently hide the native Windows Taskbar and create a dock icon for the Start menu, but there's a drawback: no built-in support for the system tray short of upgrading to the paid version. Despite this, ObjectDock is a no-risk, solid choice for an alternative taskbar if you're dissatisfied with the Windows offerings.

Seth peers into the deep, dark corners of software so that you don't have to. He has yet to suffer a single nightmare about OS/2. You can follow him on Twitter.

I have Object Dock plus (the paid version) and I never need the Windows taskbar anymore. Even with four docks running the drain on my system resources is minimal, and I'm very happy with it.

I've been using Objectdock for years. Its a great little utility. Keeps my desktop nice and clean of all those icons. Not as great as Mac OS X, but for windows, not bad. I highly recommend Objectdock if you want quick access to your icons and keep your desktop tidy and neat.

lol @ the mac boy. why would anyone get suckered in on a marketing ploy to sell over rated, over hyped and over priced junk that has half the features of a pc but cost three times the price? lil internetworld7's twist on the word windows, thats really original. who would of thought of that? maybe someone who owns a mac? i can't wait until some 14 year old kid writes a virus and destroys 99% of the "get a mac" garbage these people wasted all that money on. my pc can run circles around a crapintosh anyday. oh look i said crapintosh, ha!

I've been using ObjectDock for a few months now... It's quite easily customizable, and plays nice (mostly...) with others. A good product. What -I wonder- is new, in the 10th of a Meg addition I just down-loaded...?
