Although it's not bursting at the seams with features and customizations, FLV Player should appeal to users who need a lightweight tool for watching Flash-formatted videos. The freeware program can also stream content directly off the Internet. CNET Download.com Editor Seth Rosenblatt takes it for a spin in this First Look video.

Seth peers into the deep, dark corners of software so that you don't have to. He has yet to suffer a single nightmare about OS/2. You can follow him on Twitter.

I use FLV Player for playing my downloaded *.flv files. I get them from flash video sites such as youtube and use a firefox extension to download them. This is handy when you need to use a web video on a computer without internet for presentations, or just to save the hassel, and cost (download limit!), of watching it on the internet every time.
