CNET Top 5: Worst downloads of 2008 (so far)
2008 is nearly halfway over, which means that poor CNET Download.com senior content manager Peter Butler has reached deeply into the trash heap to pluck out, shake off, and crown with glory the most useless downloads published this year. He's handed the best of the worst over to CNET Executive Editor Tom Merritt for show and tell. Hey, even truly horrendous software deserves its moment of shame fame.
Jessica Dolcourt reviews the latest and greatest smartphone apps, in addition to a healthy dose of Windows software. E-mail Jessica and follow her on Twitter.

This is already happening for a long time now, I have to give up trying to come to this place and try to see any of these videos. Its frustration guaranted

If they simply posted the Top Five, we'd all get the story just fine in a few seconds, without having to watch a three minute video (if it worked).
Sure, video articles are progress but are they more efficient? A picture can tell a thousand words, but a few words can tell the story better.
I am most bothered by CNN.com, which I visit many times a day. They have video (only) news stories that I can't hear, or some need speakers turned on. Just print the frickin' story or add text as an option.

- Just simply listing the winners of the worst list would not only convey all the necessary information, but will also do it in a much, much smaller file to download. For someone like me on a slow connection, it is frustrating waiting quite a while for videos to download whereas it could be done much, much more efficiently in print.
