Featured Freeware: Comodo Firewall Pro

Don't let the name fool you, Comodo Firewall Pro is one of the best freeware programs around that can also hold its own against other pay firewalls. Previous user complaints about resource hogging and a confusing interface have been addressed and this application has never been easier to use.

It still provides a smorgasbord of information and options for advanced users, but it's simple enough for beginners, and runs smoothly and silently in the background. When you first install it, the Comodo pop-ups come often as the program "learns" your online behavior, but those soon stop. Summary, Firewall, Defense +, and Miscellaneous tabs provide links to relevant security issues so users can drill down to learn more about how the firewall is performing and what exactly it's doing. The Host Intrusion Prevention System supposedly protects against unknown threats--obviously, it's hard to tell if it works unless an unknown threat gets in, but it didn't seem to affect system performance negatively.

i have been using this firewall for ages now. I find that this firewall is totally better then the windows free version and any paid version that is out.

This is totally better then any other firewall out on the market.

I have been using it for some time, but then I tried Online Armor which is also free. I am very satisfied with it. Do try it out, maybe you'll like it. Both of them share the first place on some firewall tests.

They posted the wrong picture! That's of version 2, the new version is different and even better: here's why: http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-challenge/results.php

I did a science report about firewalls, and created a rating system based on a suite of tests. Commodo scored a 43 out of 100, where zone alarm scored 99.7. This was because commodo failed to block outgoing connection, and crashed many of my benchmarks. If you want a good firewall just go to: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp. It is a great firewall

Zone Alarm does not support x64bit systems. So, I disagree on that count.

3.0.22.327 Seems to only be a BETA version. Is there a non-Beta download?

Then I saw in download.com and thought i would give it a try. .

Now i Have Control Over Every connection made to my pc or out of the pc. .

and its also worthy of the name Comodo Firewall ' Pro ' .. It really is pro.
and its better than any/most of firewall out there . tests conducted by independent agencies confirm that . and its hell lot better Zone Alarm .

what a hunk of krap! who in their right mind would sit and constantly monitor a firewall that can't remember your settings? if you love pop-ups and this is the king of all pop-up programs, go ahead and install it! in 5 minutes you'll be trying to uninstall this and it will pop-up until it's last breath. people will say it's a good program until they finally figure out they're spending more time keeping this firewall quiet than they are doing anything else. don't waste you time with this, i tried it out to give a fair review and my opinion is it really serves no purpose for an everyday user. it's the most annoying thing you'll ever install, stay away from it !!!

I don't know where you have been alice_b0wie, but I have been using Comodo Firewall Pro for a number of years now and have never had the slightest problem with it. The pop ups are non existant. I would imagine that you have the setting incorrectly set.
I would take the word of the independent study group over an individual study any day. If this group states that Comodo is rated at 100% then I must go along with that as I have never had any type of intrusion since using it. Before Comodo, I was using ZoneAlarm and I got one word for it.....SUCKS....Several intrusions while it was my primary firewall.
Enough said...Comodo is fantastic

I have been using Comodo for several years now and it is fantastic. Prior to downloading Comodo I was using Zone Alarm and it really SUCKS. How it scored a 99.7 % on the individuals science project I'll never know, maybe his project was biased. I will believe the group study of 100% for Comodo over the science project of an individual.

Been using comodo for quite some time. It's excellent. Zonalarm went downhill a long time ago, and onlinearmor really got under my skin; I couldn't kill the processes and when I tried to uninstall it, it gave me an error message. I don't like onlinearmor. Think I'll stick with Comodo.

It's really the only Free Firewall for me, even the paid firewalls would not work for me because of me running Windows XP Pro x64 bit OS. I used to use Zonealarm Free Version. But they don't have a version for the x64 OS's.

comodo firewall in my view is better than zone alarm. Earlier i was using zone alarm its a bit of a resource hog. But comodo is light on resources and does the job very well.

I have reviewed comodo as well and used it to replace Zone Alarm, since it was a great freeware product.
My review can be found at:

I have internet with my phone company and Zone Alarm will not allow me to access the internet. Once you disable Zone Alarm everything is O.K.

I loaded Comodo today on my XP system and after restarting it crashed numerous times within seconds/minutes and after popping up numerous complaints about modules that, as far as I can tell, are commonly used modules. Had to get the system up in safe mode to delete comodo and move on. Guess I'll pass on this wonderful product.
