Have you been thinking about buying a new Mac? Have the sleek new iMacs won you over? Maybe you're thinking about one of the MacBooks? Well, this was brought up yesterday by our very own Tom Krazit at CNET News.com, but I think it's worth mentioning here: don't pull the trigger on that purchase just yet!

According to Mac rumor sites, Apple will announce the release of Mac OS X Leopard on October 26. There's no confirmation from Apple--there never is--but with last week's news of a mostly complete release candidate for Leopard, it's a pretty good bet that what the rumor sites are hearing is true. Though you might be chomping at the bit to get a new iMac, you'll be much happier if you wait and get Leopard preloaded on your machine. You also won't be kicking yourself for having to spend an additional $150 to get it.

Jason Parker writes software reviews and features for Windows, Mac, and iPhone. If he learned to dance, it would make him a fabled "quadruple threat," but we can't get him to do it.

Won't have to pay another $150

If you buy a new Mac within two weeks of an OS upgrade, you get the new OS for something like $10 (cost of shipping you the DVD) when it comes out.

Wonder if delivery or buy date?

My birthday present Mac is due to be delivered on double ten day (this month.) Wonder if it will be considered delivery as purchase date for the almost free upgrade? But that is 16 days not two weeks from the projected release date. Near miss is as good as a mile

We will need a family pac anyway so it is just academic interest.

Don't run out and buy a new mac with leopard when it first comes out. Wait until the bugs are worked out of it.

It's only pictures and animations, nobody could build an OS that good!
