Uploading and downloading Web photos
(Credit: CNET Networks)The number and quality of online photo-sharing sites, along with their burgeoning communities, have been growing exponentially ever since mainstream consumers embraced digital photography.
Flickr, Picasa, Snapfish, 23HQ, Zoomr, and Webshots (disclaimer: Webshots is owned by CNET Networks) are only a handful of the free sites that let you publish your own pics and explore other photographers' creations.
Once you've established your digital presence on a photo-sharing site, you may find yourself uploading hundreds, if not thousands, of photos to share with friends and family. While the sites have powerful technology to display, categorize, and host your images, they're not designed for batch uploading and downloading; that's where third-party plug-ins and add-ons can come in handy.
Yesterday, I took a look at Migratr, a free tool created by Alexander Lucas that can download all of your images from one site and then automatically upload them to another.
What do you use to upload and download photos from your favorite online-photo site? And what's your favorite photo-sharing Web site? Tell me about it in the comments.

both serve me well, and Photobucket looks liek their beta uploader is coming along.
I tthink there is room out there for a SYNC function to these sites.. Don't make me upload, just sync (preferably behind the scenes) all pictures in a given folder structure, including the sub-folders and sub-sub-folders etc!
Something like \pictures\2007\Jon Rocks in Belize\Day 2
etc.
thank you!!
Webshots for just plain uploading lots of famuily photos for friends and others to see.
Photobucket for hosting my photos to blog about or send to others.
Flickr for serious photography and cameraholics.
when we get into video, there are a couple of other sites, but this topic was photos.
Any suggestions?

BUT---out of all of these listed, SMUGMUG is the best. All can do photos for you, but what makes Smugmug different from the others is SERVICE. All of these companies give great quality photos, if you took the photo right. But its when you have a problem with the upload or order -- THAT is when you see a differece --- you want a company you can send a fast email to & hope for a reply to help you normallly in 2 or 3 days. With Smugmug, the reply has ALWAYS BEEN less than 24 hours, many times 12 hours or less & for me, service is a big factor. Hopefully Migratr will work well because then I can uplaod a lot of photos at once which will save a lot of time. If you haven't tried these, try them. All are different. All have good pointers. Some are easier than the other. Compare & use it to fit your needs. If you are a pro -- Smugmug, Shutterfly, & MasterPhoto USA are good sites. But overall, Smugmug service is the best hands down.
to read the SD card in the camera. Can somebody help me..?
Thanx.
Great new upgrades to free photo software in the Shutterfly studio for editting like brightness contrast and red eye--even teeth whitening/cropping, and very simple to use.
If interested photos from my daughter's grad from Univ and a cruise.

Thanks Cindy
PS I am interested in finding a program to send small video clips that both of my new cameras take.
Picasa,Webshots,Flickr (although the last named is not as good since Yahoo's intervention)are all very valuable sites, and work very well, for me at least!
Google broadsheets/documents is also one I use often to publish to the Web or my Blogs, particularly images, but you have to watch out that the size of the image transmitted is edited by the size editor on the photo upload page, otherwise half of the photo is missing on the blog!
Incidentally, I tried to download your latest tip "migratr" but gave up after being confronted with a Microsoft page demanding that I download .NET Passport, taking up much more space than the actual programme! I shall try again on Mozilla!
Your site is always interesting, and anything you have in suggestion form for uploading and publishing Video files to the web would also be appreciated! Google Video doesn't want to know (for example) anything about " Microsoft Movie Maker" files - War of the Browsers, maybe!

- I don't know anything about blogs let alone uploading or downloading or reducing 7 meg jpegs to more or faster photo communications.
