Top 5 free downloads
One of our chief occupations at CNET Download.com is to keep our eyes peeled for excellent freeware. We've got our own picks for ultimate free applications (and also for the most essential), but we like to consider your opinions, too. CNET Executive Editor Tom Merritt recently conducted an informal poll among his Facebook and Twitter contacts, asking for their favorite no-cost software. Here are the five apps that readers--maybe you--tapped as the best of the best.

Also comes with some 'nice' Adware. Had to uninstall and do a system restore to get my video files back. Not to mention that pulling files into the VLC library is incredibly annoying and slow.
I like EVERYONE esle here, has used it for a long time, NOT ONE thing wrong with VLC.

Good little program.
Also scan all your files and programs BEFORE you open or install them with MORE than your local antivirus.
Go to virustotal.com scan at onelivecare, and housecall by trendmicro, AND use your adware programs like malwarebytes, or spybot etc..then you will be fairly confident you will be okay.

- OK. This many comments has me convinced to try again. Maybe I did get a PHONY version...?? Could someone give me the TRUE url for downloading VLC? Thanks for all the replies, I don't mind admitting I'm wrong. Live and learn, eh?

- This is there site videolan.org/vlc/ they added a ad in the video player only when you watch movies or video because there is another window that appears to see the video. I really don't see why they didn't do it sooner, the product is free, so why not let them use ads to support them right.
