After announcing an updated version of Apple TV early on Thursday, Apple released a new version of iTunes (Windows and Mac) to support the changes. The new iTunes update also adds an option that enables users to choose a dark background for Grid View and improves accessibility. You will need the iTunes update in order to use all the new features in Apple TV.

The Apple TV update adds more content and extra features to the set-top box. Notable improvements include a redesigned Menu to help you get to your content more quickly; iTunes Extras, which lets you buy behind-the-scenes content from your favorite movies; and iTunes LP support, so you can now view iTunes LP content while listening to music on Apple TV. The update also improves photo browsing, bringing face-recognition and image category sorting to the Apple TV.

Jason Parker writes software reviews and features for Windows, Mac, and iPhone. If he learned to dance, it would make him a fabled "quadruple threat," but we can't get him to do it.

It also adds much better jump-list support in Windows 7 :) With custom icons, shuffling music, going to the store, disconnecting attached iPods and playing recent music.

I hope they follow up with an update to Front Row. I want the new Apple TV interface on my computer. I actually use a Macbook hooked up to my TV so it'd be nice.

I can't prove a connection but after installing Itunes 9.02 last night my computer then froze and kept rebooting endlessly doing some kind of windows updates and it took me all day and hours on the phone with Microsoft to restore it to a usable state again. Anyone else have a problem with this new Itunes?

It also doesn't fix the general sync issues with the iPhone. Since iTunes 9 and iPhone 3.1 syncs frequently fail or are slow. If I hit sync again it works.

When the iTunes 9 update first came out and i downloaded it so i could install the update for my iPhone, it made my computer freeze up and run sluggish. So i uninstalled it. When i installed the iPhone update it kept saying that it couldn't run iPhone photo processer. Also the iPhone update said that it would allow you to send and receive photos through text messages. I still am unable to send and receive photos through text messages. I am VERY unhappy with this. I should have just stuck with my old crappy phone that i had. At least i could send and receive pics through text messages. And also i am VERY unhappy with the quality of the camera on the iPhone. It takes VERY poor pictures. Needs a flash and zoom.

I still don't see how to change the grid view to a darker color like on older itunes versions. Is this an apple TV only feature?
