Prizefight: Snow Leopard vs. Windows 7
You like high-profile cage matches? It doesn't get more intense than the operating system that encompasses Microsoft's hopes and dreams, Windows 7, going processor-to-processor against a refreshed and re-invigorated Snow Leopard from Apple. Can Windows 7 move past the failures of its predecessor Vista, or will Snow Leopard turn this into a one-cat fight? See what three CNET editors think of Windows 7 versus Snow Leopard in our latest Prizefight. You better believe it's subjective.

Corporate America's major concern is reducing cost and maximizing profits. They want something cheap and good enough. They don't care about ease of use or style. This is why corporate desktops/laptop are as ugly as sin and lack the whiz band features we see in consumer PCs. My 3 year old MacBook still have more features and power than the brand new HP corporate laptop I received this week.
So in the end the corporate worker will want to run the same apps and work with the same data and systems that he/she is most familiar with. Buying a Mac means being willing to stop following the herd and trying something new and maybe unfamiliar. Me .. I couldn't give a f**k is my Mac can run some business type program. I bought my computer to do the fun and interesting things I like to do. And I bought the computer that allows me to do those things with very little friction.
Your needs and wants and desire may vary. I'm a Mac.
That's the power of a mac, i tried to do that once on windows vista and xp and i got the BLUE SCREEN!!
you have a significantly smaller number of product B sold to consumers
you are going to have more issues with product A than product B, because there are more stupid people using product A.
It amazes me how many mathematically challenged people are out there still.
By the way, I've been running Windows PCs since I was 16. I am now 23 and have never had a computer virus. Give me a version of OSX I can install on my PC and I will gladly dual boot it.
Just stick to your smug clique and stop bothering the rest of us.
By the way, if you're going to make that tired "Windoze" gag - you could at least get the spelling right. Or should we make allowances for the fact that you were probably composing your tripe on a sheeny-shiny piece of crud?
wow stupidity at its best. macs arent as used much because they're expensive. cheap things always win in the market.
oresteia22, Please stay off the moron slamming, over my life time I most likely have killed more brain cells with alcohol that you will ever have. I do apologise for the spelling mistake... Damn Microsoft keyboard.
MaxSux, Well golly jeez, not sure what you are reading there buddy. I think you need some more education. IT challenged... ME, hate to tell yu there buddy, I work in one of the most advanced IT industries that I can't actually mention right now or I would have to shoot you after I told yu. I have been in dat dawg gone industry for over 22 yrs. I poop smarter than you.
With all that aside now, I will admit Macs are very expensive, don't need to tell me that I bought them. But the HW is A class. Looking at buying a new 27" iMac now. But hold your breath I am also buying a copy of Windoze 7... possibly 2.... Yes you heard me right. Microsoft has it's place in the market but so does Mac. And it will take a lot of convincing that Windoze is better.
An excellent example that Madison Avenue has done its job.
But lets throw out that flawed logic and debate the merits of either without discussing which one sold the most.
The fact that there are more windows platforms with which to accumulate viruses then OS X platforms is a known fact .Big deal. It is the "design" of the OS itself that opens or closes it off to viruses.
As a software professional that has designed and written operating systems, It is my educated belief that says it is the "design" of Windows that makes it more vulnerable to viruses than OS X.
jajajaja
Microsoft windows will always have a cursed... THE BLUE SCREEN!!!!
Don't tell me i'm wrong because i have seen like 100 blue screen for windows 7 this month... its just the big choice of hardware... they CAN'T make a 100% stable OS like apple has done with the Mac OS X
The thing is, they each have their faults. No one OS is "perfect." NOW, that doesn't mean they can't be almost perfect. But anyways...
Now, I'm no big smart IT from some big corp, but I am a techno geek. I cant get into minute details, but I expect more from my OS then for it to play solitaire. So, from that point of view, here is my opinion.
I have been a PC my whole life. Really. Everyone in my family was completely against Macintosh and their OS. But, wanting to break the streak, I finally convinced my parents that I wanted a Mac as a replacement computer for my Jr year in HS. They agreed, and I now have a pre-owned MB. My mom now is HIGHLY interested in getting an iMac as a replacement... although we still won't be losing our PC capabilities.... I needed Windows for school, and so I used Bootcamp and set up a partition. Works great. Now, we can't do that with a PC, can we, Hmmm? Point one.
Point two. Faults. Know of constant issues with W7. Yes, it's WAY better than Vista (Vista SUCKS). But it still has its faults. I haven't heard many who haven't complained about it. And then there's OSX; I put leopard on shortly after it was released, and it is (almost) a dream. Really, the ONLY (and this is after how many weeks now?) issue I have had is really my own fault; if I don't reboot immediately after installing some software, the thing freezes up randomly at any time. But a quick reboot or two, and things are great. REALLY. That's it. Point two.
Lastly, nothing can beat Mac support. Even if you don't have Applecare, you are taken care of. I took my new MB in right after I got it, just to check it out and make sure all the HW was running fine (I was having constant freezing issues... every two minutes). We made an appointment, the guy took it, ran a diagnostic on the HW, and reinstalled the OS with OSX. He also installed iLife. He reported that everything checked out fine. My price? the $30 it cost me to buy Snow. Now, how many places can I do that very same thing for a PC, or just for the Windows OS? None? I thought so.
My half a point to add is that Mac does have one downside; there are many more PC compatible programs. But, that is improving, and with Bootcamp, who cares?! I mean, WINDOWS has Office for MAC!!!
And there you have it. Both are fine enough OS. they do their thing. But my winner? The pretty white one :)
Snow Leopard wins.
Not enough free software, get a glove and get in the game; pretty much every bit of Open Source software for Freebsd and Linux runs on Mac, http://www.finkproject.org/
Hmmmmmm!
Apple market capitalization: 182.69 billion
Microsoft market capitalization: 233.97 billion
Learn a little about the stock market before you spout numbers that can't be compared.
But that's besides the point, which is that you can't simply compare one company's stock price to another and expect to have a valid conclusion, no matter how similar the companies are.
I've been also using Mac for several years know and what kills me is why people still go for windows.. Apple just works. There hardware and software come form the same factory. They can get it right. I've never had a problem with wireless, printer, programs, software.. It just works.. Windows you have to worry about drivers, updates, registry, blue screens and VIRUSES AND MALWARE.. I've been working on PC computer for over 5 year know.. I don't know how much more I can take it.. Down to the hard ware for mac to the software. It doesn't make since why people don't really won't to get a computer that has bullet proof glass materials for the case and a power cord that is magnetic to you can't break the motherboard, I don't know how many times I've seen that on PC's. People are just scared to change form what there use to i guess. But if they don't soon they will spend several hundred dollars in cleaning and repairs for there PC. This just $200-$300 more for a computer that will do it all and last for more than 4 years.. I'm still using my Mac mini to that come out in 04 that is still faster than Windows XP, Vista and I think even 7...
Thank you!
P.S.
I don't know when was the last time I had the blue screen of death on one of my computers or any client.
Except for those cause by a hard drive crashing. I've been using Windows 7 since RC1 and my computer is working just fine now that I have the RTM ultimate running. What you should do is pick up your PC and go to the nearest 10th floor and just let it drop. It is garbage. I don't know what kind of crap you are using if its only 6 months old and it cant handle Windows 7 but yet I'm pretty sure it came with Windows Vista.
Have been running it for 6 months now, easy to install and runs great.
Once people see this is not a revamp of vista but a complete overhaul and the best windows version yet ...bar non... plus it has great easy to use function, awesome graphics with DX11, more secure but not over secure with pop ups asking you all the time if you really want to do this? I see this as a step in the right direction for Microsoft...the proof is in the podding, so you'll have to taste it to know it.
I've never understood the die-hard mentality from either camp. But as a point of clarity as the discussion is based as a "Prize-Fight" numbers of purchased products make no difference.
The number of fans rooting for one fighter over another has no bearing on the outcome. Hell I'd bet more people ate cheeseburgers last night than a fine steak, and that doesn't mean that the burger is a finer cut of beef. It just means that more people ate it.
evil little prank he-he.
Well I hop they fix that problem I would love a to have OS X but they don't have it for my PC and they have a small market the reason why you don't get much viruses and most Computer users don't want to spend a thousand dollars for something they'll just use for facebook and emails.

- snow leopard should have won by a larger margin. especially with features and interface. i want to see a prizefight where they compare the whole os as opposed to just what you get in the upgrades.
