Three smart Outlook add-ons

As someone who parses through a prodigious amount of e-mail every day, I'm constantly working with Microsoft Outlook to find e-mails and recipients, add new contacts, write myself reminders, and make sure I actually see those reminders even after I've left the office.

Three free or free-to-try add-ons are a constant help. There's Xobni, a search tool, Gwabbit, a contact management helper, and Google Calendar Sync beta, which helps keep calendar items current in Outlook, Google's Calendar, or both. Read more about the three killer Outlook add-ons here.

If Outlook is too conventional (or expensive) for your tastes, we recommend checking out Thunderbird, a free, five-star alternative from the people who brought you Firefox. There's also Postbox, a Thunderbird-powered variation in beta, which just received support for extensions.

Jessica Dolcourt reviews the latest and greatest smartphone apps, in addition to a healthy dose of Windows software. E-mail Jessica and follow her on Twitter.

Yes, if you only have Vista and no MS Office, Outlook is expensive to get. And that leaves you with no way to sync your WinMobile device with your contacts or calendar since they don't work with Windows Mail or Calendar in Vista. However if you have Vista, you need to get Windows Mobile Device Center to sync your device (made for Vista) but it doesn't sync with the mail. Why make a program to sync for Vista when it does not sync with the Vista mail?? Write an article on that brilliant Microsoft move...

I looked for name and address grabbers before. Ended up installing the OL Toolbar available for LinkedIn accounts. It's free and works just fine (except if the contact has Puerto Rico address. Won't get city and "state")

Can anayone recommend an app that (easily) takes the web page you're looking at and sends it in HTML format in Outlook (e..g 2003) - without completely messing it up? Try doing this with IE6 or 7: File> Send>Page by email, and then be prepared to press delete a dozen or more times in selective places to get rid of overlapping ad and odd images placed on the underlying page, to make it look presentable. Sometimes you can't even send the page at all - and you end up just cutting and pasting a link. My Google toolbar's "Send to" button used to work almost without flaw doing what I needed - until about 1/2 year ago - no fix has been found yet to my knowledge.
