Mozilla has fixed a number of security holes and made some stability improvements to the public version of Firefox. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, Firefox 3.0.11 also addresses a specific bug that would corrupt a user's bookmarks database.

According to the Bugzilla report, the corrupted bookmark database was the most common bug reported via Live Chat and in the Firefox support forum.

The security patches in v3.0.11 fix a hole in a JavaScript chrome execution along with other arbitrary code executions, URL spoofing, and memory corruption. The full list of security fixes can be read here, and the release notes are available here.

Now if only they could fix the constant crashing they'd have something good.

On Friday----mine crashed four times in an hour-----solution: uninstalled Firefox and switched to Opera....Lee

Doesn't crash for me. I don't think having 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 along with 3.5 Preview of Firefox protects software from crashing so I really don't know what I'm doing that's different enough to keep FF stable.

mine has never crashed..

Mine hasn't crashed either.

It's about freaking time Mozilla. Since the last update FF3 has been nearly unusable. Crashes at least 3 times a day. Lags, hangs, and generally performs very poorly. I was so desperate it drove me to use IE8 for almost 2 full days! Then I even tried Google Chrome 2.0 and have been using that waiting for an update to fix all the problems. Many friends have had the same problems as me and it only gave my dad more ammo against me putting it on his laptop.

I'll admit FF3 has been crashing on me a bit more frequent as of recent. Only occasionally though. Not as bad as it was at other times in Firefox's history.

I not need this version. I afraid Firefox 3 will look messy. No thanks for new version.

I use Firefox 2 build 15 is very stable and no problems so far! No crash. Build 16 to 21 have bugger, I notice them. Do not going new version. I stick Firefox 2 forever without worry upgrade new latest version.

SeaMonkey is much better similar to Firefox 2. To avoid us to be headache on bugger versions. Be careful.

I have never experienced any of the crash issues people are complaining about. I rarely get crashes at all. No update so far has ever made it unusable. Updating to Firefox 3.0.11 and Firefox 3.5b99 now.

firefox 3 had turned into IE. Constantly freezing up on java code - which is what I hated about IE. It got so slow, I would switch to IE to speed things up.

Your implication is that we are all stupid, and you are the only one whom knows what they are doing??? Lee

3.5 Preview doesn't crash as much if at all, even when I disable addon compatibility checking with addons that are supposedly incompatible.

Very oddd!!! I cant say i've ever had any problems with Firefox crashing! Could it possibly be extensions that are installed?

Exactly. To all those people you say FF crashes all the time: How many add-ons, extensions, themes etc do you have installed?

Do not confuse the unstability of the additional stuff -that eventually lead to the unstability of the whole program- (but that's not to blame mozilla for) with the unstability of the standard application. It is not unstable itself.

I've only the very necessary and I experience crashes once in a month or so.

Firefox SOP has been gradually improved, either by the body itself upgraded and/or add-ons helping.
The main problem with MS OS or IE, is that changes are quite drastic. It puts you off balance.
Daily routine is a continuity of daily chores with little or no change in SOP.
We all want to feel comfortable when doing what we like, or love to do.
That is computing. Microsoft tries too hard to please a multitude of voices, yet hanging on to old practices because the voices or buyers are not ready to make abrupt changes. Yes, the changes
can cost time and money.
I for one, is hanging on because it is my only past time which makes the world feel so close.
The Firefox Team and fans have my thanks for the good work being presented to us.

I have never had Firefox crash on me either. It has to be an extension issue of some sort.

I've not had any problems with Firefox crashing either. I'm using ver 3.0.11 currently. I have however noticed a considerable slow down in it's operation. Perhaps this is all the add-ins and junk that other applications throw at us daily. One of the clunkiest pieces of work ever is Java...don't care what species of Java, just Java in general. Unfortunately it is a necessary evil. In addition, I don't feel that anyone is 'stupid' but it might be a good idea to really check out your systems for temp files, free space on your OS drive and especially your pagefile.sys. I'd be interested to find if these considerations help any of you with your Firefox issues. Rely if you have time, between us we can work through some of your problems!

The second best way to lag any browser out is to open a PDF using Adobe's PDF plugin. Java I'll have to agree is the first.

Since updating to 3.0.11 two out of my three Comp's have lost 99% of extensions, styles etc.
Using MozBackup from the good system doesn't help ?

This isn't Mozilla's fault, the add-on developers have to test their add-on and update it.

All updated add-ons should be compatible with FF 3.5b99 right now, so it shouldn't be a big problem.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. For me the update to 3.0.11 was seamless and it is as fast and reliable as the previous distributions of Firefox.

I really enjoy using FireFox 3.0.11 It is way faster and more reliable that IE. I was a IE user for a long time and I really was to fond of the lagging and wasted effort it took to use the darn thing but my friend suggested to me to try FireFox out and see if i liked it. I was very impressed with FireFox I will never go back to using IE again. Ive been using it for a week already and I havent had one crash or lockup yet.

Firefox has never crashed on me. It does use a bit more memory than I'd like but I have it to spare.

I've used IE all my life and Firefox is just a million times better than IE. It was hard to get used to though. I had to figure out what userchrome file was but after a few days I got everything customized.

Ridiculous....this so called best browser a round every update has the same updated "critical security holes" or other similar things. When will people finally realize that this browser is worth nothing.

Well, it's software, and no software made by humans is bug-free.

With this in mind, what do you prefer? An open-source development model, where hundreds/thousands of people around the world help spot bugs and patch them quickly, or the same dumb and flawed "security through obscurity" approach by Microsoft with their closed-source IE browser?
by jake3373 June 15, 2009 10:03 PM PDT
At least Firefox patches their security holes.
When will MS patch IE's biggest security hole: ActiveX
