GreenPrint World scans print jobs before they hit the page to make them as tree-friendly as possible. It creates a print filter, intercepting your print jobs before they reach the spooler and checking them against a list of preset but adjustable criteria. You can have it grab by the number of lines on a page, for example.

In this First Look video, we'll show you how the program can help you prevent wasteful print jobs--and how it could be even better.

Seth peers into the deep, dark corners of software so that you don't have to. He has yet to suffer a single nightmare about OS/2. You can follow him on Twitter.

I've discovered a great way to save paper too. I have one of the pdf printer driver programs in the computer and when I want to print web pages, I just make them into pdfs. Then I can look at them anytime using Foxit.

When it comes to printing we frequently focus on saving paper and ignore "saving ink". When you look into it, you will see that ink (the liquid, the cartridge, and the manufacturing process) is more harmful to the environment and cost way more then paper. For example, while a printed page cost 1 cent for the paper it cost anywhere from 4 cent (laser, black and white, text) to 30 cents (inkjet, color, picture) for the ink. That is 30 times more expensive than paper.

The good news - there are software solutions in the market that optimize ink consumption.

I highly recommend PretonSaver Home. PretonSaver utilize patent-pending technology to reduce the amount of ink used for printing by up to 70%. And, it still provide excellent print quality.

You should try it. Free download from HalfTheInk.com (http://www.halftheink.com)
