Smart Defrag is a no-brainer

IOBit's Smart Defrag is one of the best utilities out there, offering several levels of defragging, an auto-run option, and a scheduler in a freeware package. It doesn't hurt that it's fast and effective, either.

Small, light on its feet, and extremely good at what it does, Smart Defrag has become our go-to defragger. Watch this First Look video and see if it's the defragger you've been looking for, too.

Seth peers into the deep, dark corners of software so that you don't have to. He has yet to suffer a single nightmare about OS/2. You can follow him on Twitter.

When I first got it a while ago it worked as intended, but I downloaded an update and it never worked again. In fact it started to effect the performance of my computer and had to uninstall it to get my computer to work properly again.
I use Auslogics disk defrag and that works like a charm.

Wrong assessment. I use this defrag. Smooth working. Regular update. No problem. A good friend in need.

Why, after running SmartDefrag, does Windows Defrag show lots of red (fragmented) files? I prefer JKDefrag.

Because what has not been disclosed to you is this: ALL DEFRAGGERS; FRAGMENT AS WELL. The better defrag software is able to minimize this and upon continuous use; lessons its own fragmentation print. Yeah I know, BS right? Wrong. All software, makes not a difference what it is, once it is put to use; fragments your system to a degree.

The ideal scenario is to test available options for yourself. Should that NOT be something you care to do nor have the time to "waste"; seek out opinion of those that have run tests and can offer advise without hidden agendas. Yes, there does exist the possibility of the demented WAD CHEWERS that would have you waste more precious time by goading you to download what they know is CRAPWARE - just for the hell of it.

I could be one of the aforementioned ilk as far as you know. However; I HAVE run tests as it is my "business" to do so. I am a 30 year Veteran of the Armed Forces of the U.S. I "retired" via a well placed RPG whilst in the Kush. I now assist returning Combat Wounded Veterans with a vast array of needs. Disability claims, health care and Modern Computer Skills For The Disabled. EVERY, and I mean EVERY machine I put together, repair, clean or furnish to a Disabled Veteran; has Auslogics Disk Defrag installed.

This is a result of not just my accumulated tests, but from listening to those that I have assisted and continue to assist. There have been a few Veterans, that for their personal choice; I have left the Windows OS defragger as the only option. However; requests for an install of Auslogics to be included has NEVER dipped or stagnated. It is consistently remained the choice of the masses. At least with those that I come in contact with.

Which ever you choose, you need to use it regularly AFTER CLEANING AND REBOOT. Why? Well cleaning is obvious, you don't want to wait while the program wades through the crap left behind from a day at Club Web. Rebooting, ell, it in and of itself does a bit of cleaning.

When all physical RAM in a PC is in use, Windows then begins to use the HDD like it were extra or free RAM. This "abuse" leaves the PC with degraded, sluggish performance. The pagefile system is HUGE and if the PC begins using it instead of Virtual Memory (and it will), it creates a lot of disk activity and FRAGMENTATION. Upon reboot; all this data that has been going back and forth (swapped) on this area of your HDD - gets "wiped". What gets left behind is a fragmented HDD, primed and ready for a DEFRAG.

Whence done with the Web (disconnect from your Internet source); scrub it, reboot it and defrag it. HOOYAH!

Auslogics by far, in my opinion, FRAGS the IOBit Smart Defrag program to DEATH! Both systems are nice for freebies. Far too often one finds that he or she has installed more than intended! Not so with either Auslogics or IOBit.

HOOYAH!

Much better than Auslogics. Auslogics is much slower and can only defrag one drive everytime.

Check out the new Auslogics Defragger. It now ALLOWS YOU TO DEFRAG MULTIPLE DRIVES. Also; whiIst I was using Smart Defrag - it began to behave erratic and caused several problems. After uninstalling, running ATF-Cleaner & CCleaner and re-installing the New Auslogics Defragger; all my machines are running top notch once again.

lol he said it would take a few hours for deep optimize. Mine took a few minutes probably around 10 minutes or less o.O Maybe that's for a computer that hasn't been defragged in about a year o.O I guess I did a good job keeping mine defragged.

This is no doubt great freeware, but I still prefer Piriform's Defraggler, but it doesn't hurt I also use Ccleaner and Recuva - Two other good programs from the same company.

i 've been using SmartDefrag for a long time since i tried Quicksys DiskDefrag. the second is free and in beta stage but i noticed a much better improvement in my disk and bootup session. it has a technology with cluster optimization and it may take a little bit longer than smartdefrag but does a great job.... even better than perfectdisk O&O and other paid defraggers and it's still in beta! now it i have deleted smartdefrag and use it as the main defragger.

Except Defrag is built into Windows and is run automatically in the background making this pointless.

Smart Defrag ran smoothly. So far so good. I want to see how the CPU performs over a longer period before reviewing in depth.

Won't work on Atom processors. I have Asus 1000HE. Tried to work it, but realized the processor cannot handle this program.

Well, I must disagree, IObit smartdefrag ONLY autodefrags the C drive, if you have other drives or external drives it never auto defrag them.

Also it's unable to defrag system files, pagefile and hiberfile, those 3 are defragged by PerfectDisk 10

I use Perfectdisk 10 and It does a way better job than IObit's

I found over use on my computer can cause computer jumble and nothing but reformatting will fix it, tho if Smart Defrag is used correctly it can be a good tool.
