Torrenting might be all the rage, but that hasn't stopped Gnutella client LimeWire from a major update driven by an interface redo and Web 2.0 features.

LimeWire and other Gnutella-based programs are notorious for mislabeled and intentionally mistagged files, it's true. But some of LimeWire 5's social-networking features--such as creating lines of communication and file sharing between friends based on your Google/Jabber contacts--indicate that Gnutella's not dead yet.

Seth peers into the deep, dark corners of software so that you don't have to. He has yet to suffer a single nightmare about OS/2. You can follow him on Twitter.

I can't belive that cnet is actually endorsing this hunk of junk. limewire is not only full of spyware by itself, but it opens doors for other spyware and viruses. Anyone that uses this program after reading this warning deserves the computer malfunctions they get.

LimeWire sux. Don't think that because the name sounds familiar, the software is good.
It's way too slow and uses too much memory (even without doing anything), because it's programmed in Java and apparently not very well done.
It's just another Gnutella client. Who cares that it has a friends function? Other apps have it to and who uses it?
So you're better of with uTorrent (for Torrents), Shareaza (for Gnutella, Gnutella2 and Torrents) and Graboid (for movies and series on Usenet).

People always ask me about filesharing and i always recommend Shareaza or Frostwire if they must use one of these programs. I hope frostwire didn't go this way.

Wait a second... aren't all of these file sharing services primarily for the sharing of movies and music, and thus... kind of illegal? is there another reason to use this?

i gave up on Limewire a long time ago because my friend told me about Soulseek. Thats what i recommend to everyone when they ask how i download all my music. And if there really computer literate i tell em about torrents.
