CNET TV: See which tab you're switching to

One of the most useful hot-key commands in Firefox is Ctrl+Tab. Unlike the Alt+Tab hot-key combo for Windows, which lets you jump from program to program in an interface based on the program's icon, the browsing tab switcher has never had a graphic interface--until now.

In this CNET TV Quick Tip, Molly Wood shows you the new tab switching GUI (graphical user interface) that's coming in Firefox 3.1. It's only in beta now, so if you're not comfortable installing unstable software, I recommend holding off for the official release.

After playing around with the feature a few weeks ago, all I can add is this: what on Earth took Mozilla so long?

Seth peers into the deep, dark corners of software so that you don't have to. He has yet to suffer a single nightmare about OS/2. You can follow him on Twitter.

Yeah, I'd be rushing to turn off that feature as well. I don't even like having to reach for the keyboard to use Ctrl-anything. If I can't click on the tab I want, I can hover the mouse on any tab and use the mouse wheel. It brings into focus each tab in sequence. Whether it goes from left to right or right to left depends on which direction I turn the wheel. It certainly points out how lazy I am. :-)

I've been using 3.1 beta for a week now and i certainly like it over 3.0. A lot faster (if you turn on the engine). I like the tab switching graphical interface, however I just found out today that for the preview to show up, you have to have more than 2 tabs open. otherwise, it just switches between tabs- should have been a no brainer. I'd like to see more OSX features supported in the final build AND I would like to see better detail in the overall appearance. My tabs are slightly a different color gray and are not seamless. Also, the "add a new tab" button (at this point) cannot be added to the toolbar on the left with the other navigation buttons (where I had it in 3.0). It now sits on the far right in the tab row. I will get use to it at some point but would rather have the option to put it where ever I want.

All revisited pages accessed via tabs are obscured by a modal "Still searching for the Right product?" dialog box. Box must be dismissed before page can be accessed. Since I often bounce back and forth between two or three products, this drives me batty!

I am sure the tab feature discussed in the blog is worthy, I just can't view the video. Is it because I have a Mac?
