How to use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0
If you're thinking of switching to free antivirus protection, or are looking for a different program to try, AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is a rock-solid choice. Incidentally, it's also the most-downloaded security application on CNET Download.com.
Yet, it's not enough to follow the crowd. What if you dislike the interface? Or decide that the free edition doesn't give you as comprehensive a protection package as you'd like? These things happen, you know.
Hence this slide show, which attempts to take the guesswork out of scouting for a new application or starting up AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0 for the first time. It will walk you through installation tips and the feature set to help new users get started with AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, and to give security-seekers a sense of what to expect from the application.

I would never hesitate to recommend this fantastic cornerstone of your computing security.
Check Google - you'll fine a LOT of others who stopped using AVG after version 8 release.
Expects everyone to be on line 24/365.
I'm not.
That appears to be a BIG problem.
I turn my computer on, and get the message that the update connection has failed.
DUH!!!
I go on line, click on the "!-ed" icon and get the message that all is up to snuff, but I need to re-start my computer, and the whole vicious circle starts again.
If I DON"T click on the button, when update time rolls around I get the message that the file could not be updated because it is corrupted.
Click on the button and now [img]http://www.enochutah.net/Comp/AVG-1.jpg[img]
find that the upload database has been turned off. Weird.
Rather than run in circles, I mostly ignore it anymore.

- Come on people to compare AVG to Norton or McAfee is like comparing Windows to one of the Linux distro's. Both great for what they are but .... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!. This is not to say that AVG is a bad product quite the opposite I have found AVG to work well and for my customers who are unwilling to pay for Norton or one the others, AVG is a much better alternative to no protection at all. With that said, do you really believe that a free program could be as good as one that you pay for??? Also to remember that when somone does a comparisson of products they are taking PRICE $$$ into consideration for the average consumer. For the average home who is not going to make financial transactions AVG is fine but, if data secuity is important, or for a home office you have got ask youreslf just one question, DO I FEEL LUCKY? As I have seen computers running AVG get infected. I have confimed this by scanning the suspect machine with Noron or McAfee and in some cases I have found problems that AVG did not catch. With that said In over 15 years of using Norton products at home and at the office, I have NEVER WITNESSED A COMPUTER THAT WAS RUNNING NORTON AND UP TO DATE BECOME INFECTED......... NEVER!!!!!!!!!
