Featured Freeware: Tab Mix Plus

This is one of the best Firefox extensions around and makes tabbed browsing even better than it already is. Tab Mix Plus can change the close button on each tab feature, control the rows of tabs when you exceed the width of the browser window, and almost everything else associated with tabs. Use your scrollwheel to browse tabs, or control tab switching via mouse gestures. You can specify where Web pages will open--in the background or the foreground, in a new tab or the current one--based on how they were created: by clicking a link, typing an address, or using the search bar.

You can duplicate a tab, protect it from closing, or merge tabs from several windows. We also like the option that prevents those annoying blank tabs when you download files. Another useful feature is a session manager that restores tabs that were open the last time the browser shut down. We'd like to see an option to view tabs as thumbnails, but nevertheless there's something here for every Firefox user--don't browse without it.

Amen, brother! TMP expands and enhances the tab experience far beyond the bog-standard Firefox and any other browser our there. The separate Session Manager add-on does a better job than TMP for session restores, and happily enough, TMP is even set up to work seamlessly with Session Manager! Can't beat that with a stick! ;)

It is a great extension - just one extra i'd like - a lock button on the tab, next to the close button.

As to the article itself

a) I would have thought a note, telling readers that if they are using Fx 3.0.1 then they will need to go to http://tmp.garyr.net/ to pick up a copy of version 0.3.7pre 080729, might have been appropriate.

b) And perhaps another note warning readers that using the old version with version compatibility checking turned off is no answer for this particular extension.

What ever happened to investigative journalism - don't they teach it any more.

This isn't certified to work with FF3!!! There's a version that works, mostly, but it's buggy and not available from Mozilla. The version linked to is certified for the alpha builds of FF. Actualgear has a link to the newest version. It's hopefully less buggy, but still not Mozilla certified. Beta tester needed.

"We'd like to see an option to view tabs as thumbnails..."
I think what you are looking for is "Firefox Showcase" (I think that's its name...)
It opens a tab that has thumbnails of the other tabs (very similar to the IE's "Quick Tabs")
I searched for a long time to find it, and it makes tabbed browsing SO much more convenient!

If you all used the best browser "Opera", you all would of been using it for quite awhile. Since all the other browser like FF and IE are just trying to catch up to Opera.
