Dear users,

Over the past months, we've been hard at work redesigning our site. You may have got a sneak peak at our new look and feel or you may be seeing it for the first time today. Either way, we hope that you enjoy the smoother, sleeker, and easier-to-navigate pages.

Wondering what, exactly, has changed? Here's a brief tour:

Easier-to-find content: We've reexamined our site layout to make it easier to find the software that matters to you. We've moved our Most Popular software lists front-and-center so that you can see which titles currently top our charts. We've also designed tabs with your operating system in mind, so you won't have to wade through software that you don't need.

New CNET Download.com home page

Our new, tabbed design helps you find the software most relevant to you.

Faster page load time: Our engineers put the site on a diet. The result? Much quicker load times for each page.

New video player: We still put a video player on many of our pages, but this one looks nicer. It plays in wide screen (16:9 aspect ratio) and makes its many features--closed captioning, full-screen mode, and links to download or embed any of our videos--easier to find and use.

Our new video player now displays wide screen video.

Better search results: Our Download.com search now returns blog posts and videos along with software titles. Also, if you like, you can customize the number of search results you get with each query.

Now you can more easily sort your search results.

We don't want to fix what isn't broken, however. The backbone of Download.com remains the same: more than 100,000 downloads, all guaranteed spyware-free.

Like what you see? Frustrated by the change? We want to know what you think, so please send us feedback.

Best,
The CNET Download.com team

Yeah there used to be a site www.music.download.com and I found heaps of cool indie stuff there too. <br />But they shut it down just a week ago... <br />They now redirect it to last.fm... <br />Which is crap in comparison...

This is stupid. Now I can't find the "All Freeware" section. It will probably take a few clicks to find. It's worst that before. And the font is ugly.

I think your previous page design is way better. This looks like a high school project in Web Development subject.

I like the improvements and have spent quite a time looking around. The pages load quicker and I am quite happy to see that thought as been put into what we the users want.

A big improvement - but yes, the font is too small / fuzzy and is hard to read.

As someone who got to view the site during its' Beta stage, have already made several comments (along with many others). It's a pity, therefore, that none (apparently) of these comments appear to have been taken on board.<br /><br />Don't get me wrong - Overall, I like the new site - it has some important new and improved features, but ........... I still miss my yellow background and font (miss my mum too).<br /><br />Please return the "updated" badge on my watch list - it's a bummer to check all my software downloads for any updates (I know you email me, but I sometimes forget to - or don't have time to - react straightaway). Also, would it be so difficult to keep my preferences on the watch list sceen (ie: no of items displayed per page) and not have to re-input every time I visit. Small issues, but that's the world we now live in since Google first let us users start getting our own way!!

I have been waiting CNET to change its look.<br />Actually, i like (not love) the new design. Loads faster than before. Except for the font, MUSIC Section as kheas said, layout, and background.<br />The background theme is too classic. The yellow one is unique.<br />Maybe CNET can change the background theme. What about linear colours like the one before (Yellow to White, but i bet CNET can compare better colours with the layout theme.<br />And, about the font. Is CNET using "Amethyst" or "Constantia" as font? Change it please...<br /><br />Some features don't work perfectly. Such as some images can't be loaded (I tried using Opera and Mozilla Firefox to check it, and both browsers can't load some images)

The improved functionality is great. The new look (colors and fonts) leaves a lot to be desired.

I was not unhappy with the old look but this one is OK also. I like the faster downloads. The font is OK too but you seem to have the same problem that I do with capture of screen shots and the fonts there. The pictures are smaller and so is the font in the screen captures. I fix my problem by expanding the screen that I want to capture to an entire page and then capturing that. It doesn't work all the time - for instance if I want the whole screen and capture it at the whole screen width, but that seems to be a problem that I just have to live with. Good work for you and your engineers all in all.

Thanks for all your comments.<br /><br />@kheas, you can still find music.download.com here: <a class="jive-link-external" href="http://music.download.com/" target="_newWindow">http://music.download.com/</a> . It's been removed from the main site navigation, however.<br /><br />@certdb2dba, you can find all freeware by clicking the "Top Freeware" link at the very bottom of the left-hand navigation bar.<br /><br />Keep those comments coming,<br />Lindsey Turrentine

"Top Freeware" does not sound like ALL Freeware, but more like where being shoved down our throats as to what you think we want free ware to be. I am sorry that just can't do. CNET is a world leader in the latest and newest of ground breaking software. Many security apps made their start to the top from CNet. Apparantly this is not going to be the case anymore??? That would be terrible. <br /> <br />Also the search, why is that I cannot use the word "downloads" anymore? That used to get me the latest in down loads thatI would check each day. I tried other words to no avail. Why because the "by date" function apparantly no longer works, as I am getting scrambled dates instead of being in order. <br /> <br />Are you sur their are people in control there that know what they are doing. You may not know just how important CNet is to the world, but I sure do. I would hate to go back to Source Forge and other again. CNet WAS the best!

NOT BEING TOO FUSSY OR TOO ACCOMPLISHED, I'M ABLE TO ADAPT TO THE NEW FEATURES. I THINK MANY PEOPLE ARE NOT APPRECIATIVE ENOUGH, AND THINK THEIR DESIRES[ USUALLY KEPT SECRET] ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT COUNT. TSK,TSK! THANKS FOR THE IMPROVEMENTS! BLESS YOU ALL AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

The main search seems to be broken. Last week I was easily able to find one of the password manager tools. Now, I want it again and I'm having no luck. My search (pasted in below) returned 126 results in blogs. Well I don't want a blog, I want a download! help!? No results in software, so nothing to 'refine'. It was better before!<br /><br /><a class="jive-link-external" href="http://www.download.com/:///:///:///:///1770-2001_4-0.html?searchtype=blogs&#38;query=password%20manager&#38;tag=srch" target="_newWindow">http://www.download.com/:///:///:///:///1770-2001_4-0.html?searchtype=blogs&#38;query=password%20manager&#38;tag=srch</a>

This "new look" is completely gash. Where are the downloads??????? I search and all I get is blog results. I'm not interested in reading this crap I just want to download spybot.<br /><br />Whoever thought of this is a moron

you use spybot and then call someone a moron?
by addypearce November 23, 2008 2:13 AM PST
I've never had a problem with Spybot, always run very well and makes a good addition to a spyware detecting library. Also, last time I checked it had 103,646,389 downloads, so they must be doing something right. Seeing as though you seem to know so much about spyware detection maybe you should write your own program. Looking at your other comments, you don't seem to like anything so go and make it yourself if you're so clever.

Try the search again, works perfectly for me.
