Dubble Bubble Shooter Free HD review

Dubble Bubble Shooter Free HD is a fun game for iOS devices that involves shooting bubbles at like-colored bubbles to eliminate them from the screen. If you think that sounds like plenty of other games you've played, you'd be right -- but Dubble Bubble adds a few interesting twists that make it worth checking out.

Dubbe Bubble Shooter Free offers three game modes: Puzzle, Arcade, and Zen. Puzzle lets you play at your leisure with no time pressure, Arcade adds a time crunch, and Zen lets you play endlessly for relaxation. Unlike many other games in this genre, … Read more

Review: Bubbles Shooter is a fun, accessible iOS puzzler with issues

Bubbles Shooter takes a familiar formula and combines it with a few new features and gameplay elements to create a fun, challenge-filled version of the genre. While there are issues with the app, stemming from the layout and interface, at times, it generally plays very well and the actual game is as engaging and addictive as ever.

The idea behind Bubbles Shooter is elementary. There are a number of colored bubbles on the top of the screen. Match three or more and they will break apart and fall from the screen. Miss too many times and the bubbles start to … Read more

Superhot: In this FPS, time only moves when you move

As independent gaming development grows, so too are we seeing the proliferation of game jams where developers are tasked with designing a game in a short time. Last month saw 7DFPS, a game jam where the only requirement was to create a first-person shooter within seven days.

Now, we've seen some pretty cool games come out of these jams. Some have gone on to become hugely popular -- and one of those is currently in the making. Called Superhot and created by Polish studio Blue Brick, it brings something wickedly fresh and new to the arguably predictable FPS. … Read more

Shooter game uses real Japanese bow as interface

Traditional Japanese archery, or kyudo, involves drawing a bow that can be taller than the archer himself.

You wouldn't think a long flexible bamboo pole makes for a great gaming interface, but Masasuke Yasumoto of Tokyo University of Technology would disagree.

He developed a game called Light Shooter that makes use of a traditional bow, or yumi, as a shooting device. … Read more

Battlefield 4 charges forth with multiplayer trailer, beta in October

We're on the precipice of a huge war -- well, at least in the virtual world. The highly anticipated Battlefield 4 was a hot topic Tuesday at the Gamescom expo in Cologne, Germany, as developer DICE detailed a closed (and open) beta, a new multiplayer trailer, and information about the Premium service, as well as the names of the expansions.

An explosive Battlefield 4 multiplayer trailer shows gamers a hectic, watery landscape called "Paracel Storm" that will test the skills of any rabid first-person shooter fan. The explosive trailer reveals how chaotic 64-player (32 vs. 32 on all platforms) online combat can play out, especially in this montage that showcases nonstop explosions, collapsing buildings, and fierce air- and naval-based warfare.… Read more

Pixlgun 3D lets you play a Minecraft-like first-person shooter

Pixlgun 3D is a Minecraft-themed (though not affiliated with Mojang in any way) first-person shooter for both iOS and Android that recently updated with multiplayer, perhaps explaining its meteoric rise to No. 1 at the App Store (at the time of this review). But be warned that multiplayer is only offered over local Wi-Fi.

If you don't have friends sharing the same Wi-Fi, this means you'll be playing the campaign survival mode. In this mode you enter a series of levels where you'll need to kill every zombie on a map in order to move on to … Read more

Review: G Shooter is a familiar game but without irresistible features or options

G Shooter uses a familiar mechanic but fails to innovate or add to it in any meaningful way, resulting in a lackluster game with little reason to play beyond the first couple of rounds. The concept of G Shooter is very straightforward. Move your character with a digital joystick on the left and aim the gun with the stick on the right. Enemies will move toward you at all times and your gun fires automatically. So ultimately all you need to do is move.

This is fine and works well in other games in the same genre, but those games … Read more

Wolfenstein: The New Order set for current, next-gen consoles

A new entrant in the long-loved, first-person shooter series, Wolfenstein, is coming, Bethesda Softworks announced Tuesday.

Dubbed Wolfenstein: The New Order, the game will follow series protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz after World War II. But there's one problem. In the new game, the Germans have won the war, and Blazkowicz is charged with taking on the Nazi regime.

CNET sister site Gamespot was first to announce the new Wolfenstein, confirming rumors that a new chapter of the famed franchise will unfold in the fourth quarter.

According to Bethesda, The New Order will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation … Read more

XCOM shooter rebranded as The Bureau, arrives in August

We first got a taste of the XCOM shooter back in 2010 and even got to see it in action at E3 2011. Unfortunately, the game got delayed numerous times and eventually went dark. In fact, it got lapped by XCOM: Enemy Unknown -- its turn-based-strategy counterpart -- which turned out to be one of 2012's best titles of the year.

2K Games is ready to lift the curtain on XCOM once again, complete with a live-action trailer, a trio of screenshots, and best of all a release date. Newly titled and packaged, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is set … Read more
